KANSAS PUBLIC LAND HUNTING RESOURCE PAGE
Federal Wildlife Areas with Public Hunting
How to Use Kansas Public Hunting Page
This page is a way to do the preliminary research for finding public land on which to hunt in Kansas. Because Kansas has a shortage of public hunting land, the competition and hunting pressure on these areas can be fierce. The way to overcome this is to do your research up front.
Not all of us have the financial resources to own private land to hunt on, lease it, or have "connections" that will get us on private ground to hunt. Public land is the only other option. It CAN work.
Some tips... First, do not assume that it is out of the question to hunt smaller areas. If everyone has this attitude then this parcel may not get hit very hard. The folks at KDWPT will discuss with you the pressure that various places get. Second, consider hunting other times than opening dates. Some of these areas get hit hard, then the pressure lets up and game returns. This is often the solution to successful hunting on public land.
On this page you will find three main sections. The first section lists KWPT hunting areas listed by region. You will find the name of each area in the region, the region number, species that may be available to hunt, acreage of the area, and if one exists, a KML file for the area. KML files are downloadable files with Google Earth maps of an area.
The second section is a list of Kansas counties with the areas that have public hunting ground in each. Not all counties have areas listed. This may be an oversight on our part, and we will continue to add to the data as we find it. Both KDWPT land is listed and federal land as well.
The final section is a list of federal areas that may be hunted. Some of these areas are quite large, but may have more regulations than state land.
IN EVERY CASE IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE HUNTER TO KNOW WITH 100% CERTAINTY THE REGS IN PLACE FOR THE AREA YOU ARE HUNTING AND THE SPECIES YOU ARE SEEKING TO HARVEST. THE FEDERAL AREAS ARE CONTROLLED BY STATE REGS AND USUALLY SOME ADDITIONAL FEDERAL REGS.
